POSITION SUMMARY: The 6-12 Special Education Paraprofessional is a professional role model who works with Special Education Teachers to assist in daily needs of students with disabilities. The Special Education Paraprofessional delivers testing accommodations to students in assessment situations, assists special education teachers in caseload related matters, and assists in a variety of special education matters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides testing accommodations to students per IEP or 504 Plan.
Communicates with teachers and students professionally & effectively
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to achieve effective participation and learning in all activities and lessons.
Pushes into classes, assists in Special Education caseloads
Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to teaching and instruction of students and special education.
Know and have used a variety of special education models, current programs, and strategies.
Child growth and development and behavior characteristics of students;
Educational curriculum and instructional goals and objectives, and the educational trends and research-based findings pertaining to student educational programming;
Behavior management and behavior strategies, techniques, methods and conflict resolution procedures;
Socio-economic and cultural background differences of general student population; Cultural responsiveness.
Technology including devices and computer programs.
Commitment to the success of all children.
Demonstrates success in collaborative teaching, managing a mixed-ability classroom and facilitating performance-based learning.
Work with a variety of teachers and students to assist in special education programming of students
Provide effective learning experiences for students with a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
Effectively communicate progress with teachers, families & administration
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Professional/Permanent certification in applicable grades/subject area.
.Familiarity with the Committee on Special Education & Classroom experience.
.Knowledge of testing accommodations and delivery within appropriate setting
.Multitasking and scheduling to appropriately perform duties
